Determination to Succeed - Hope’s Story

My name is Hope… I have had a life filled with chaos and instability, but I am here to tell you that If you have the desire to change, you can gain a community who will wrap their arms around you and your family. That is what Ripple of One has done for me!

I was raised by a single mother. My Dad was in and out of prison due to his involvement with drugs. He tragically died at the hands of the mafia and my siblings and I became victims of physical abuse at a very young age. I spent the latter part of my childhood in and out of the system and much of my youth was spent battling mental wars that resulted in a suicide attempt at age 14.

As a young adult, I found myself a single mother of 3 kids and I was determined to give my kids a better life! My friend (who is a graduate of Ripple) suggested that I apply for the program. I was accepted into Ripple and was assigned a team who coached me. My Ripple Team is phenomenal! My dream was to get a college degree but there was always something in my way - I felt depressed about being continually stuck. But with the help of my Ripple team, I was finally able to enroll in college and will graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice this year. The sense of accomplishment and moving in the direction of my dream, has lifted my mood dramatically. Another goal is to move out of HUD housing, so I've been in the process of earning a Habitat for Humanity house. I’m set to graduate the Ripple program this year and I’m so proud of all my accomplishments.

The biggest difference I’ve noticed in my life is my self-confidence. I'm ok with being who I am and not fitting into everyone’s box or idea of who they think I should be. You never know what a difference just one person can make. Ripple offers opportunities that can be life-changing!
