A Go-Getter Attitude- Sara's Story

Sara with her son, Finn

Hi, my name is Sara! I am 41 years old and a single mother of a baby boy named Finn. I joined the Ripple of One program last year and God has opened a lot of doors for me since then. Here is my story:

I had a good childhood overall. I am a twin so I always had a best friend to grow up with and we are still close today. I grew up as a PK (preachers’ kid), so I was in church every time the doors were open.  My parents set strict rules for our household. I am grateful for how much they cared and I truly feel like they wanted the best for me.

I moved out at 22 and lived with my sister for a while. I went to college some but never finished. I eventually got into the medical field and have now been in medicine for over 10 years, starting out in primary care and now in hospice.

Moving out on my own, I had a wild phase. I partied a lot and got in with the wrong crowd. It was a season in my life that I learned a lot from. I learned that not everyone has the best for you. I lost an apartment during that time and because of some of my choices, and ended up living in a hotel for about 6 mos. My parents never lost hope, but knew I had to figure things out on my own.

As a young adult, I had problems with dating. I always wanted the best, but the guys I chose were not right for me at all. I was the giver and never felt like I was treated like a real lady. In my mid twenties, I was in an abusive relationship for 5 years and had to move out of state for a while to get away from him.

In 2021 I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Finn. I realized I was going to have to raise him on my own and make a life for us as a family.

I never had a hard time finding a job and keeping a job. I am a hard worker, but needed help with budgeting and career planning. Before joining Ripple, I would stress over whether or not I could pay my bills.  In just a few months, I’ve made a huge change in my budget and how I view my finances.  It’s not perfect, but I know where my dollars are going and I’m learning how to manage and save money. I feel so much more stable. I went from making $14 an hour to $21 an hour. I moved from living with my family to having a place of my own.

I now have a “go-getter” attitude and my confidence is getting stronger and stronger. I have cheerleaders (my team) that want me to be successful! When you learn the right steps to take and apply them, the difference is mind blowing. I want my son to be proud of me and to be able to give him what he needs.

I am so thankful to be a part of this team.  Ripple offers real help and compassion. They truly care about you and want you to be successful in all areas of life - health, money, planning, your children and their future, and friendships. I have a second chance at life and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead!

I am so excited and blessed to be walking alongside Sara and sweet Finn during their Ripple journey. Sara’s determination and courage are evident. I look forward to seeing the ways God uses and blesses her over the next two years!
